Throughout all major milestones of life; be it birth, education, marriage, and raising our own families, we expect and hope to share it with our loved ones especially our mothers. Our mothers have always been by our side; patiently, graciously and lovingly holding our hand and supporting us every step of the way. Unbeknown to many, not only the Sikh nation, but the whole world has a spiritual mother in Dhan Dhan Mata Sahib Kaur Ji! Mata Ji is a Mother, who bestows her children with endless gifts and provides that all-important role model to society of the power of Aad-Shakti (Vaheguru’s Primal Energy), reaching beyond gender, race, creed and status.
To reignite and inspire the masses about our Supreme Mother; a unique event was organised by the mukh sevadars, Baba Gurbax Singh Ji and Baba Karandeep Singh Ji (UK wale) of Gurdwara Sewewala Sahib. With the blessings of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj, Sant Baba Ajit Singh Ji (Hansali wale) and Beeba Nihal Kaur Ji (Sewewala Sahib); a massive 7 day smagam in celebration of the 340th Parkaash Purb of the Mother of the Khalsa Panth, Dhan Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, took place on the 28th October to the 4th November 2017.
The feeling of belonging, of being warmly embraced and protected by Dhan Mata Sahib Kaur Ji was felt more than ever recently by over 300,000 people from far and wide; including over 100 members of UK sangat at Gurdwara Sewewala Sahib. This event, being the first of its kind in the history of Punjab was broadcasted online as well as on Sikh Channel daily, where over 100,000 viewers tuned in. The smagam diwans can still be accessed by folllowing this link: https://youtu.be/MVXAl-DZ_Aw
On day five, a national Gatka competition was arranged where teams from all over India took part. Mata Sahib Kaur Ji’s Prakaash Purb on the 3rd November was a momentous occasion, where there were Akhand Paath Sahib Bhogs from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji. This was followed by Keertan from world renowned kirtanis and kathavachaks, including Akali Kirtani Jatha (Amritsar) and Bibi Prabjot Kaur (Batala). The smagam ended with an exclusive announcement! Baba Gurbax Singh Ji and Baba Karandeep Singh Ji informed the sangat that a future high quality, 3D, animated movie will be released in December 2020: ‘Motherhood – the journey of Mata Sahib Kaur Ji’. This movie will be made by the sangat, for the sangat. The news was met with countless Jaikaras which echoed and resonated all around the Diwan hall - as the announcement was made, flower petals rained from the sky and sangat were left feeling as though Mata Ji themselves were radiating their love and affection upon her children.
The animation will allow the whole world to understand and develop their relationship with Dhan Mata Sahib Kaur Ji. Motherhood will beautifully depict the exemplary life led by Mata Ji and show the world their infinite virtues such as compassion and devotion, as well as how they led with unwavering spirit and strength. This animation which is already underway, will prove to inspire future generations and unlock the untold treasures and beauties of our mother so much so that the whole world will sing the praises of 'Dhan Dhan Mata Sahib Kaur Ji.'
The Gurdwara Sahib was beautifully lit up and decorated with a grand stage holding a captivating Shastr display where Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji and Dhan Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji were Prakaash daily from Amritvela. Daily diwans started with Sampooran Asa Di Var and continued throughout the day until late evening when the saadsangat would flock to join Baba Gurbax Singh Ji and Baba Karandeep Singh Ji singing sweet, melodious Waheguru Simran. The whole sangat felt the electricity-like bliss when both Babajis did simran and some were left in deep bairaag (spiritual separation) with tears flowing as they sang. Children and all local sangat would automatically come running from wherever they were at the time of Simran and promptly sit down and join in.
In addition to the daily diwans many events were organised to support and inspire the local sangat. Day one consisted of Career Counselling which aimed to support the local youth whilst on the second day there was a Kids' Sikhi Camp where over 400 local children learnt about the rich history and countless contributions that Dhan Mata Sahib Kaur Ji made to the Sikh nation. After the exciting activities, trophies were presented by special guests; Bhai Sukhraj Singh (Sikh 2 Inspire), Lewis Mills, Bibi Sukhmani Kaur (Basics of Sikhi) and Bhai Kuljit Singh (Sikh 2 Inspire & Mata Sahib Kaur Educational Trust).
A turban tying competition was also organised where again prizes were given. At this event Lewis Mills – a 25 year old Biology student visiting India for the first time, was blessed with a turban which he adorned with pride from then on. On the 31st October, a Kabaddi tournament took place, organised by Piara Singh Randhawa, who is the current UK Kabaddi Federation Manager.
Later that evening, a very special moment took place where all sangat were blessed with the darshan of Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj’s dastar (turban), Dhan Mata Sahib Kaur Ji’s jore (shoes) and peera-sahib (small chair); brought from the descendants of Mai Desan Ji. Accompanying these priceless belongings, was a puratan, handwritten, larivaar saroop of Sri Dasam Granth Sahib Ji which was read lovingly to honour Dhan Mata Sahib Kaur Ji's Prakaash Purb by Dal Bidhi Chand. A Jatha of around 18 singhs were also sent to the smagam by Singh Sahib Giani Kulwant Singh Ji from Sri Hazoor Sahib.
